# The Story Behind VAS

## Story

VAS is where the canvas ends. The name is taken from the last three letters of the word — and from the moment a finished work passes from artist to collector. Based in Cairo, VAS curates original artwork by Egyptian and regional artists under one rule: each work exists once, and leaves the gallery permanently.

One Original. One Collector.

## The Rule

Every work on VAS is original. There are no prints. No second editions. No reproductions of any kind. When a piece sells, it is removed from the catalogue and does not return.

This is not a marketing position. It is a structural rule. The platform cannot list a duplicate. The contract with each artist forbids reproduction of the sold work in any commercial form. The collector who buys is the only collector who will ever own it.

## Curation

VAS curates under the aniconic tradition. The works shown do not depict the human face or figurative representations of living beings. This is a discipline, not a limitation. Removing the figure removes the most fashion-bound and culturally narrow subject in art, and surfaces categories that have outlasted every regime that ever ruled the region — calligraphy, geometry, abstraction, and landscape. Work that does not date.

The founder believes, and the curation reflects, that the most defensible art is the art that was never tied to a face or a fashion.
